Female genital plastic surgery is usually successful for cosmetic and functional improvement and may enhance sexual experience.

Satisfaction rate after female genital cosmetic surgery

Most women like the results of vulvovaginal cosmetic surgery and the satisfaction rate is usually greater than 90%. Sexual satisfaction is less but still more than 80-85% of women are pleased.

Complications are often minor and usually acceptable to patients and there is commonly a subjective enhancement of sexual function and body image.

Overall then, female genital plastic surgery is successful in addressing patient's needs for cosmetic and functional improvement and in many may enhance sexual experience. However, if emotional issues exist that affect sexual pleasure, these need to be addressed separately.

Clitoral hood or labial surgery for adhesions due to vulvar lichen sclerosus may have other complications and the adhesions can recur.

There is no good information about the effects on future vaginal childbirth but there are no reports of labiaplasty leading to excess tearing during delivery.
