The camel toe appearance is caused by fullness in the labia majora. In many cases this is genetic but may occur when the natural swelling that occurs during pregnancy does not fully resolve. It is more common when women are overweight. It is not caused by pubic shaving . However, pubic hair is lubricated by natural oils that allow clothing to glide over the pubic area more easily and this may make the camel toe appearance less noticable.
This appearance bothers some women. Many find it embarrassing to wear tight clothing, swim suits, yoga or exercise pants.
Some women seek augmentation labioplasty to create the camel-toe appearance. Although uncommon, fat grafts have been used to augment or reconstruct the labia majora. Other injectable have not been approved for this area.
Surgery on the inner labia, or minora, will not usually change this area but reduction of the labia majora is possible and can be combined with traditional labia minora labiaplasty.
Although inconvenient, camel toe protuberance can be disguised with clothing inserts.
