breast implant shape: the round and "anatomical" implant

Many patients are confused about the shape of the implant they should choose for breast enlargement. There are two common shapes: round and teardrop(anatomical).
Although there is a great deal of hype surrounding teardrop shaped implants there is little good scientific evidence to suggest they offer any significant advantages.

In fact it has been shown that both implants produce a similar shape inside the patient. Common sense tells us that this is likely because under the effect of gravity, the fluid will tend to go to the bottom of the pocket made at surgery and assume a similar shape.

Some surgeons feel that the additional material needed to create the anatomical shape may fold and increase the likelihood of tear. In addition positioning teardrop shaped implants can be more difficult.

Today, there is no good evidence that teardrop shaped implants have any advantage but there are possible reasons why they may not be a good choice.
