In a perfect world
The patient lies on the operating table, her arms outstretched like a crucifix, head covered. Her naked upper torso is basted in Betadine, giving her skin a yellow oxide glow. Her large breasts, the cause of her grief, are marked with black ink like a dressmaker's pattern. She is totally paralysed, a machine pumps oxygen into her immobilised lungs. Who knows where she has gone to in her head, hopefully miles away from here, where the nurses, their gold-earrings glinting under the operating lights, gather round her lifeless form and eye her breasts. "Two sacks with a golf ball at the bottom," says one. "Mmm," murmurs the other. "Saggy. Very saggy. Plastic surgery reality shows are setting a frightening example, bringing the practice of cosmetic surgery into disrepute, doctors say. American Society of Plastic Surgeons Offers Guidance to Ensure Safety for Liposuction Patients
