Silicone implants poised for return
Silicone gel-filled breast implants are on track for a possible comeback to the open market in North America just as surgeons report a new comfort level with the devices.
Eleven years after the implants were pulled from the market following reports linking them to arthritis, vascular disease and a range of autoimmune disorders, at least one company is seeking Health Canada approval to sell its product in the country.

Ancient menstrual treatment can cure baldness - claim
German researchers claim a plant used by American Indian medicine-men to help menstrual problems can also cure baldness.
Scientists at Ruhr University in Bochum say black cohosh was the first known herbal agent that could stop hormone-related hair loss and even thicken growth.
The oestrogen-like substance has been used for generations by the Indians and is a big-selling herbal remedy in the US for rheumatism, back pain and menstrual stress.
Black cohosh is native to eastern North America and grows about three metres high.

Pubic hair transplants are big business in South Korea
Transplanted pubic hair is the latest trend in South Korea, where it is regarded as a sign of fertility.
Surgeon Afschin Fatemi, from Unna in Germany, said: "In the West, women try to reduce their genital hair as much as possible, but in Korea the trend is for forestation."
He said a mass of pubic hair was considered a sign of fertility, which was why many women were paying as much as £1,700 to have hair transplanted from their heads.
Fatemi added: "The structure of head and pubic hair on Asians is quite similar. The implanted hair isn't long and rarely falls out."

Plastic surgery popular with men, Nips and tucks are up for blokes
Delegates at a national cosmetic surgery conference on the Gold Coast revealed Australian men are keeping step with a surging world wide trend of turning to their cosmetic surgeon to get thinner, look younger and add tone to their muscles.
The president of the Australian College of Cosmetic Surgery, Dr John Flynn, said men now represented 20 to 25 per cent of his own practice.
"Males first became interested in cosmetic type procedures in relation to hair transplants but they have really moved well beyond that," he said.
"They've had a riotous upbringing and vigorous lifestyle and as they begin to age I don't think they want to slow down too much and they'd like an appearance more commensurate with the way they see themselves."
Liposuction is the most popular procedure but recently more men have been using botox for better looks, said Dr Flynn.
