Medical Board of California Arrests Two Orange County Residents for Unlicensed Practice of Medicine
The Medical Board of California assisted the Westminister Police Department on July 1, 2003 in the arrest of two unlicensed persons, Thuba Tran and Tuyet Nguyen, for performing cosmetic surgery at the Christina Beauty Center in Westminister. They were charged with violating Business and Professions Code section 2052, a felony, by risking great bodily harm, serious injury or death by practicing medicine without a license. Tran and Nguyen were arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail in Santa Ana. When the Westminister Police Department responded to a 911 call advising that an unlicensed person was performing cosmetic surgery at the Christina Beauty Center at 14082 Magnolia Avenue, #114 in Westminister, they found Nguyen performing an eyelid surgery on a female patient in a back room. The patient had paid $1,600 for the surgery that was just being completed at the time police and Medical Board investigators arrived. The patient identified Nguyen as the person performing the surgery and Tran as the assistant.

German demands refund after penis extension backfires
A German who borrowed £5,000 from his mother for a penis extension is demanding a refund after it ended up shorter and deformed. Walter Schmidt, 26, said: "Its shaped like a triangle now after one of the implants slipped down the bottom."It's thick at the bottom and pointed at the top - and every time I put a condom on it falls off." The Munich man's ordeal started last autumn when he decided to have three eight centimetre implants inserted into his penis.

Why feel bad about facelifts?
Why, I wonder, did Lady Archer want to keep her facelift a secret? Lumbered with a seriously dodgy husband and a secretary who was willing to betray confidences, it would hardly be surprising if she had her fair share of wrinkles and grey hairs. Yet she looked elegant before the facelift - she was once famously described as 'fragrant' by the judge in her husband's libel case - and now, after a little surgical assistance, she looks terrific. Strong-willed and intelligent as she is, I only wish that she had come clean about her operation and had the courage to stand up and say: 'Look what I've chosen to spend my own money on to make myself feel good! And don't I look wonderful?' Because she does. But instead, like so many before her, Lady Archer went out of her way to hide the fact that she'd submitted to the surgeon's knife and is now seeking damages for 'distress, anxiety and embarrassment' in the High Court after her former personal assistant allegedly leaked the information.

Do Anti-Cellulite Creams Really Work?
Open just about any women's magazine and you'll find ads for anti-cellulite creams that promise to reduce the spongy, dimply, cottage cheese-looking skin that causes distress to so many women. The products tout caffeine, retinol and the antioxidant DMAE as the special ingredients that help reduce the appearance of cellulite, which first surfaces on the hips, thighs and buttocks of millions of women during adolescence. Though excess weight and a lack of exercise can contribute to the problem, even thin women grapple with it. According to a study by Neutrogena, 70 percent of women have cellulite. More women have it than men, because women have thinner skin, so it shows more clearly.

Plastic surgery takes off in Egypt as women turn to Western ideals
Plastic surgery is becoming increasingly popular in Egypt, according to doctors, who say more and more young women are willing to go under the knife to look like fashion models or television presenters. “Women often demand to look like this or that star, presenter or model seen on television,” said the head of the Egyptian association for plastic surgeons, Alaa Ghaitah. While Egyptian tradition says big is beautiful, the younger generation no longer thinks so, he said. Plastic surgery started to burgeon in Egypt in the mid-1980s, and developed rapidly in the early 1990s with the introduction of Arab and Western satellite television channels, he said.
