The principle of the operation is straightforward. On the upper eyelid the excess skin is marked out and then removed. Fat pads which have herniated from around the eye are removed at this time. On the lower eyelid there are two methods used. One method uses an incision on the inside of the lower eyelid. The excess fat is removed but the skin is not tightened. Another technique is to make an incision just below the lash line of the lower lid. The skin is raised and the excess fat removed. The redundant skin is then identified and removed.
