ETHNIC ISSUES
Cosmetic surgery in people of African background

Back to parent

Pebefore liposuctionople of African background usually have dark or black skin that ages well. Their need for agingafter liposuction operations may occur many years after lighter complected people. For these patients problems are more often associated with skin problems such as ingrown hair and scars (keloids) and nose shape.

Localized areas of fat deposition are common in all races. before liposuctionThis can be marked in people of african ancestry. When compared with europeans, who often produce after liposuctiona more diffuse fat pattern that is less amenable to liposuction, Africans are often good candidates for liposuction, especially ultrasonic liposuction.

Breast reduction is requested by many african-american women and because of the increased risk of keloid scar formation liposuction may be a possibility for some of these women.
